Balakovo NPP: Completion of the Fuel Loading Machine Control System
Balakovo NPP: Completion of the Fuel Loading Machine Control System
Description
Objectives
The project aimed to the modernization of the Fuel Loading Machine (FLM) at Balakovo NPP, in order to meet the machine availability and in compliance with the operation requirements of the NPP.
This project was a continuation of the project R1.02/94F, started in 1994 and addressed to the upgrading of the Fuel Loading Machine Control System.
Scope of the project
The fuel loading machine should automatically execute an off-line programmed refuelling campaign. The main machine interface should include graphical maps depicting the fuel assemblies inside the reactor, the pool and the container. In addition it should keep track of the history of all operations executed in all the campaigns performed, display and printout the parameters concerning the on-line handling.
Implementation of the project
The project was developed according to the following main steps:
• Phase 1: Inspection of the current machine status and execution of a feasibility study, definition of control system housing and definition of the FLM functional specifications and control system design.
• Phase 2: Supply and installation of new sensors, electromechanical components and cables as well as the operator console and control system cabinets. Installation of the equipment and putting into operation the reconstructed loading machine.
The project budget was app. 800,000 Euros, and the service was contracted to Diakont.
