Balakovo NPP: Filtration Equipment for the Sump Inlet of the ECCS Pumps
Balakovo NPP: Filtration Equipment for the Sump Inlet of the ECCS Pumps
Description
Objectives
To manufacture and install a new sump filter system inside the Emergency Boron Solution Tank in two units of the Balakovo NPP. The new sump filtration system should be designed according to limiting flow conditions. These conditions are the maximum flow rate of the Emergency Core Cooling System and the minimum water level in the tank.
The project R1.02/96C is linked to the project R1.02/97A. Both projects are related to the supply of filtration equipment for Balakovo and Kalinin NPPs, but from different budget lines.
Scope of the project
Apart from the manufacturing of the equipment and spare part, the project included the following activities:
- Providing the basic design documentation
- Providing the engineering documentation
- Assistance to the beneficiary/End User in obtaining the approval of RF GosAtomNadzor
- Obtaining the Conformity Certificate from AtomCertifica
- Providing installation, operating and maintenance instructions
- Development a test programme for the equipment supplied
Implementation of the project
The budget allocated for this Tacis project was 771,000 Euros. The contract was given to Framatome ANP GmbH and become effective in January 2004. After approval of the test programme, the factory acceptance tests were successfully performed at FSU NIKIMT’s premises (subcontractor of Framatome) on May 2005. The contractor agreed with the End-User the delivery in several steps starting in January 2005, respectively followed by the entry control and personnel training needed for operation and maintenance of the equipment at Balakovo NPP.
The execution of the assembly and installation of pre-manufactured supporting structures, collector and filter modules were performed by WEM (Wolga Energo Montaz), a local subcontractor of Balakovo NPP. According to the supply contract, Framatome supervised the installation works and paid special attention to the quality improvement of the deficit ridden welded joints.
The equipment passed successfully the commissioning tests in November 2005 for the Unit 3 of Balakovo NPP, and in September 2006 for the Unit 4.
