Objective

Part 1: Secondary side.
Similar to the water chemistry improvement performed on Kalinin NPP, which at that time was the pilot plant for water chemistry improvement, it was decided to install this also on Balakovo NPP Unit 1.
On-line analysis equipment similar to the equipment supplied under TACIS 92 for NPP Kalinin was installed on the secondary side where a condenser cleaning plant was also about to be installed. After introduction of these measures and the installation of the condenser tube cleaning plant (financed from TACIS 92) Balakovo Unit 1 became the first NPP where the water chemistry problem is improved significantly on the secondary side.

Part 2: Primary side.
Assessment of the existing water chemistry control and proposals for improvement.

Result

The equipment was installed on both sides, 1st and 2nd loop, which significantly contributed to the reliability of the Steam Generators.
