Background
6kV circuit breakers originally installed in the units at Balakovo NPP are of the VES-6 type, and the related cabinets are of KE-6 type. Their supplier is Rovno high voltage equipment plant, Ukraine.
During their lifetime, these circuits breakers experienced many failures and malfunctioning, leading to many incidents, and increased maintenance. Moreover, spare parts are not available any more. Therefore, Russian Gosatomnadzor decided to prohibit the use of these breakers for future use, and advised to replace the existing ones.
Each unit at Balakovo NPP is equipped with 120 such breakers of 6kV, 45 of them being safety related (15 for each safety channel).
Objectives
Supply and replacement of 45 circuit breakers of new type for 1 unit at Balakovo NPP, together with all necessary related equipment: connections and cables needed to connect the breakers with existing KE-6 cabinets. The existing KE-6 cabinets are however re-used with the new circuit breakers. The circuit breakers are supplied with spare parts for ten years of operation, including 2-year warranty period.
Project Results – Achievements
The project has been implemented according to the schedule, without major problems. The total contract value is 516,190 €.
