Project Aims
To assess the bubble condenser qualification feasibility of the VVER 440-213 NPPs of Paks (Hungary), Dukovany (Czech Republic) and Bohunice (Slovak Republic) in order to:

  • Demonstrate the necessary qualification step;
  • Assess the investment and the operation cost of necessary equipment;
  • Propose an industrial structure for the qualification process,
  • Propose to EU the documents for a negotiated contracts for the qualification process;
  • Obtain, under beneficiary and co-beneficiary responsibility the endorsement of the concerned Safety Authorities on the qualification process to ensure that they will recognize the results to be sufficient to assess the bubble condenser design.

Project Results

  • The review of documentation provided for the project confirms the impression that the confinement is designed correctly in principle. However, some specific points were not sufficiently clarified;
  • Conclusions and list of open items of the project were ranked in subcategories according to their priority;
  • A strategy was prepared for the bubble condenser system experimental qualification. This strategy resulted in issuing two test specifications that were reviewed by Riskaudit/GRS (as Western Authority) and by OECD/NEA (representing experts involved in the bubble condenser support group) and their comments were considered in the revised versions;
  • Two test specifications were presented to the beneficiary and co-beneficiary countries Safety Authorities (Hungary, Czech and Slovak Republic). According to agreed test specifications ENAC elaborated and issued two “Request for Pre-qualification” files, which were sent to Eastern and Western organizations/companies, selected together with the beneficiary and co-beneficiaries representatives;
  • A proposal of a project structure for the future VVER 440-213 bubble condenser containment system qualification process was finalizedy by ENAC.
