Project Aims
- To contribute to the definition of a safe management strategy for radioactive waste in Romania;
- To improve current waste characterisation procedure for entire radioactive waste life cycle;
- To provide methodologies and training to operators of the Cernavoda NPP in the field of radioactive waste characterisation;
- To supply relevant measuring equipment for radioactive waste characterisation.
Project Results
- Availability of methodologies for characterising the radionuclide content in low and intermediate level waste;
- Measuring equipment for waste characterisation in place;
- Capability of personnel of Cernavoda NPP to implement the characterisation programme;
- Establishment of a database on waste characterisation;
- Waste segregation according to disposal route (e.g. free release, disposal in a landfill, disposal in a near-surface repository, and long-term storage pending the availability of a deep gelogical repository).
The budget for this project was: 650 000 euro.
