This contract will be a continuation of contract INSC/2012/260-622 "Disposal concepts for radioactive waste in Ukraine" in which a deep disposal concept for Ukraine and recommendations for the long-term programme for the implementation were made. According to international best practices this contract will recommend modifications to the site selection process and provide greater detail with respect to the content in the areas such as repository design, site characterization, research and development, safety assessment and public consultation. The objective of this contract is the development of a national action plan for the establishment, operation and closure of a geological disposal facility in Ukraine.
