Project Aims
- The objective of this project was to develop a "source term and accident prognosis" module that can be effectively integrated within the existing emergency arrangements at Emergency Technical Centres for VVER in the Czech and Slovak Republics and Hungary.
- The module should, at the onset of an accident, be capable of providing estimates of the likely progression of the accident and of the potential magnitude and characteristics of radioactive material that may be released to the environment.
- The module should make use of available information of the plant state, in particular the status of the safety systems, with its predictions being updated as the accident progresses and new information becomes available, including information on plant state and its expected future performance and on radiation levels both within the plant and in the environment.
- In developing a module for implementation in Emergency Technical Centres for VVER, use should be made of software that has already been developed in Western Europe and was being customised for generic application to VVER, albeit with particular reference to the characteristics of the reactors (and associated safety systems) installed in the Czech and Slovak Republics and Hungary.
Project Results
The project was implemented in three major parts:
- Customising existing software or module;
- Training in its use;
- Integration within existing arrangements at Emergency Technical Centres.
The project was completed according to the specified Terms of Reference. The start and end dates of the project as specified above are indicative only.
