Exploratory Mission

Description

In Co-operation with the Belarus authorities, especially PROMATOMNADZOR, a team of Western European experts realized an Exploratory Mission in the field of Belarus radiation protection and nuclear safety in October, 7-11, 1996, in Minsk.
Summarizing the experts identified the following main areas in need of cooperation:
• assistance in the field of legislation and regulations,
• assistance in simplification of the administrative and organizational structure of authorities involved in radiation protection and nuclear safety,
• training and education, including the set-up of a national educational system in radiation protection and nuclear safety,
• transfer of a methodology for establishing a system of notification, registration, licensing and inspection in the field of radiation protection and nuclear safety,
• co-operation in special investigations in the field of operational radiation protection,
• co-operation in special problems on selected installations and
• financial assistance for the provision of special measuring equipment, dose meters, computers and installations.
These areas were recommended as a basis for the further investigations in the Belarus TACIS project with due considerations to planned and ongoing bilateral and multilateral co-operation programmes.
