Project Aims
The main objective of the project was to perform a comprehensive analyses of the behaviour of hydrogen produced in severe accidents in VVER440/213, and investigate the possible measures against the threat of hydrogen burns or detonations in this specific type of containment. In particular, the project focus on:
- Development of hydrogen mitigation strategies for severe; accidents in VVER 440/213 containment;
- Transfer of know-how regarding hydrogen risk and mitigation techniques.
Project Results
The project was completed according to the Specified Terms of Reference and resulted in:
- Formulation of design bases and functional requirements;
- Performance of source term, mixing and distribution studies;
- Review of mitigation techniques;
- Evaluation of effectiveness of selected hydrogen control strategies;
- Specification of equipment, needed to threat of hydrogen burns or detonations;
- Development of hydrogen control severe accident guidelines;
- Cost assessment;
- Final report and recommendations.
