Project Aims
The main purpose of the project was:
- to enhance the effectiveness of the Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority (HAEA) and its technical support organizations in performing assessments of severe accident mitigation, and in particularly hydrogen mitigation for the VVER-440/213 NPP containment.
- to give guidance to HAEA in assessing licensee applications related to Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMG), and in particularly to hydrogen issues therein.
Project Results
This project was in response to the general EC recommendations in that the development of additional Hungarian TSO capabilities would enhance in-house capabilities of as well as ensure independent support to the national nuclear regulator. The project tasks addressed the ability of the HAEA to assess the robustness/establish confidence limits for the extant assessments of the challenge to containment resulting from hydrogen/steam combustion. Specific project results were:
- Hydrogen/steam distribution, combustion and pressure loads in the VVER-440/213 containment without mitigation measures (base case) calculated.
- Hydrogen/steam distribution, combustion and loads in the VVER-440/213 containment with application of different mitigation alternatives calculated.
- Base case with results of diferent mitigation options compared and their effectiveness for hydrogen management in VVER-440/213 evaluated.
The budget for this project was: 950000 euro.
