Kalinin NPP: Installation of catalytic hydrogen recombiner system - Lot 2:

Description

Objective

Lot 1: The objective is to install passive auto catalytic hydrogen recombiners (PAR) inside the reactor containment in order to limit the hydrogen concentration so as to avoid generalized deflagrations or detonations inside the containment after LOCA or Severe Accidents.
One major benefit of PAR is that these are efficient to recombine hydrogen even in steam inserted atmospheres.
The number and the location of PAR modules to be installed depend on the H2 release and H2 integrated release scenarios as well as on the thermo dynamical conditions inside the containment after an accident;
Lot 2: The objective is to install hydrogen monitoring equipment in order to allow the operators in the main control room to follow the level of hydrogen concentration inside the containment.

Result

The requested equipment, Lot 1 and Lot 2 has been contracted on 6.11.2000. Delivery of equipment was in August 2003. Installation was in the outage period 2004.
