Leningrad NPP: All station computer network

Description

Objective

The Leningrad NPP intended to upgrade and enhance its computer network to provide an All Station Computer Network in order to significantly enhance NPP safety and reliability.
A study performed in the OSA has identified those functions which require access to an integrated computer network on a site which covers a significant ground area. Some 27 separate locations required access to the system.

The system identified incorporates an information retrieval system and associated databases, analysis and expert systems for monitoring plant reliability.

The system has three main functions:

  • Process monitoring and control;
  • On-line supervision;
  • Organizational and management related tasks.

A significant effort has been deployed on software development and the computer architecture has been specified in outline and is based on VAX hardware.

Result

The All Station Computer Network was manufactured, supplied and installed according to the objective, however with significant delay.
