Project Aims
The main objective for this project was to provide technical and financial assistence in the re-assessment of some safety issues related to Temelin NPP Reactor Pressure Vesel Internals integrity .
Project Results
The project is still in progress. Expected result is development of database of material properties of irradiated components of the decommissioned Reactor Pressure Vessel of the Greifswald Nuclear Power Plant.
The intention is to proceed in two phases.
Phase I – implemented under PHARE 2001 Project CZ 01.14.01:
- Procurement of the requisite mechanical samples from the Greifswald NPP;
- Transportation and storage of samples in the Czech Republic;
- Acquirement of first material values together with partly reassessment of the RPV internals stress state.
Phase II – current project proposal for PHARE 2003 as continuation of PHARE 2001 Project CZ 01.14.01:
- Determination of tensile and fracture mechanics properties of material irradiated during operation (including base metal, weld metal, heat-affected zone and material of bolts).
- Determination of other parameters necessary for re-assessment of internal structure according to particular methodology (crack growth rates; threshold stress intensity factor, fracture toughness of irradiated materials).
- Comparison of high lead experimental reactor irradiated material properties with properties of the material irradiated in actual operational conditions (Greifswald NPP), establishment of a correction factor.
The budget for this project is: 680 000 euro.
