Project Aims
- To review of the applicability of the USA, IAEA and Bulgarian regulations relevant to the subject of the project;
- To consider the experience gained with the development of SAR for Bohunice V-1 and V-2 NPP;
- To development a proposal for the format and content of the state-of-the-art Safety Analysis Report for Kozloduy NPP, taking into account good international practices and standards.
Project Results
Project PHARE PH-91-HA “Safety Analysis Report” was completed within the framework of the WANO Six-month programme for Kozloduy NPP safety upgrading, implemented in 1991. Westinghouse developed a report entitled “Proposed Safety Analysis Report Contents for Kozloduy Nuclear Power Station”. This report contained recommended explanatory guidance and examples for the production of the Safety analysis report to be written for Kozloduy NPP unit 1&2 in Bulgaria.
In preparation of the project report, Westinghouse used as close as possible the format and content for a SAR recommended by US NRC Reg. Guide 1.70. Some minor changes to the Reg Guide 1.70 data have been included in order to account for the design differences of the WWER plant at Kozloduy and Bulgarian national regulations. For example, references to Boiling Water Reactors have been removed, as were sections related to the Main Steam Line Isolation Valves. Since the Reg. Guide 1.70 sections addressing comparison with Standard Designs are more specific to the American designs, and thus not relevant to WWER, these sections were also removed.
A summary of the content of the Westinghouse report , proposing a detailed content for a SAR for Kozloduy NPP unit 1&2 is provided in the attached Extended Project Summary.
