Description

Beneficiary Organisation details
Main Beneficiary:
Dukovany NPP (Czech Republic)

Co-Beneficiary:
Paks NPP (Hungary)
www.npp.hu
Project Aims

  • Assessment of the seismic resistance of safety related electromechanical equipment in Paks NPP.
  • The list of equipment to be evaluated included valves, pumps and fans, cabinets, batteries, instrument racks, heat exchangers, tanks, electric generators, etc. Primary equipment, piping and steel/concrete structures were excluded from the scope of the project. The spent fuel racks and the refuelling machine were also included in the scope of evaluation.
  • Determination of through an informative walkdown in Dukovany NPP if the qualification approach used in Paks NPP can also be transposed to Dukovany NPP.

Project Results

  • A prioritized list of safety related components was prepared for the four Units of Paks NPP.
  • Seismic assessment of all safety related components on the list was performed and documented in a computerized data base.
  • After this assessment, the components in the list were grouped in three categories:
    a. Components for which qualification was achieved.
    b. Components requiring small structural upgrading.
    c. Components with insufficient seismic capacity and for which detailed qualification specifications were prepared (also designated as "outliers").
  • For the category b, practical recommendations and 29 conceptual designs were provided in the Walkdown Report.
  • For the category c, one general qualification specification, 12 qualification specifications per equipment and 25 qualification specifications per component covering more than 600 items were prepared.
  • The similarity and differences between Paks NPP and Dukovany NPP were assessed.
