Seismic hazard evaluation

Seismic hazard evaluation

Description

Beneficiary Organisation details

Paks NPP (Hungary)
http://www.npp.hu

Project Aims

  • Collection of Western and Hungarian standards relating to seismic re-evaluation of existing NPPs;
  • Definition of seismological data for the Paks region;
  • Establishment of recommended SSE level for the Paks site;
  • Earthquake monitoring network: data analysis and interpretation;
  • Estimation of the degree of seismic activity of the sites of the Paks NPP;
  • Elaboration of final report, and;
  • Training of personnel.

Project Results

  • A probabilistic seismic hazrd assessment (PSHA) produced uniform hazard response spectra (UHRS) such that the spectral value at each period had the same probability of being exceeded.
  • UHRS were produced for horizontal bedrock outcrop ground motion for return periods of 1,000 years, 10,000 years and 100,000 years. Those had a realistic and consistent shape and could be used directly for design purposes.
