Simulator training programme and documentation for Kalinin NPP simulator

Simulator training programme and documentation for Kalinin NPP simulator

Description

Objective

This project was part of a larger programme of work to improve overall personnel training in Russian Federation. It is the practical application of the training methodology transferred to under TACIS 91 4.1. project (4.1/91).

The goal of this specific project was expected to be achieved by realization of the following measures in the area of Operational Personnel Training on the Kalinin Simulator in the Training Department at the NPP:

  • Application of a Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) according to methodology transferred in TACIS 91 4.1. for the development of operators training and retraining programme (mainly simulator training);
  • Provision of an overall training and equipment configuration management system to ensure that the training implementation remains up-to-date with regard to NPP operational needs, integrating the plant modifications.

Result

The Russian counterpart was provided with the methodology and documentation partly even exceeding the TOR scope, e.g. the training material for the key positions of the Kalinin Main Control Room.
Unfortunately it was not possible to carry out the pilot training courses on the simulator for all the plant shifts due to the maintenance outage in the Summer 1997.
The pending courses were performed in the Autumn 1997 under the supervision of local instructors, trained by the contractor.

Additional constraints were caused by the present simulator, which at that time included the model of the primary circuit only. Therefore, the training of the turbine shift supervisor could not be implemented on the simulator.
A complementary model for the turbine plant was under development at the moment of contract end.

Nevertheless the specific objectives were achieved. The methodology was transferred to the Local Subcontractor so that they are now able to develop systematically new SAT procedures and training programme for the whole NPP staff. That work has been started already at the end of this present project.
