Background
The Project U1.02/97B was initially named “Reclassification of Pressurizer Safety Valves for Water Flow. All Units”, but a reallocation of the funds foreseen for this Project was approved on February 2001 by the European Commission (EC) in order to perform the second phase of the SK-187 Manipulator, as continuation of the first one, which had been implemented under the Project U1.02/94H.
Objectives
The objective was to provide South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant (SU NPP) with the Modernization of Subsystem SK187.02, with the same technical requirements guiding the former stage.
The proposed modifications of the existing subsystem SK187.02 included:

• Modernization of the manipulator for Ultrasonic Testing (UT) of nozzles Du-850, provided with a magnetic wheel carriage, scanning mechanism and transducers.
• Modernization of the manipulator for Ultrasonic Testing (UT) of the Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) pipe, provided with a magnetic wheel carriage, scanning mechanism and transducers.
• Modernization of the manipulator for Ultrasonic Testing (UT) of welds in the nozzle area, provided with a magnetic wheel carriage, scanning mechanism and transducers.
• Control system with specific features for every manipulator.
• Enlargement of the existing data acquisition system from 16 channels to 24 physical channels: 32 logic channels.
• Piezoelectric transducers as needed.
• Monitoring television system.
• Testing sample for validation of the sensors.
• Services including functional test and training, metrological certification and licensing.

Project Results
The equipment was delivered in June 2006 and the montage was finalized on July.
The finalization of the project increased the reliability of the tests and controls on the reactor vessel and decreased the dose rate of the staff in charge of the inspection.
