Project Aims
The main project purpose is to help Romania to establish in details the responsibilities of the National Agency for Radioactive Waste, which was formally set up in January 2003, following the governmental ordinance (N°11/2003).
In particular the project will assist ANDRAD to develop a national strategy for safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste and definine of the appropriate financing scheme for radioactive waste disposal.
Project Results

  • Establishment of the financing scheme for supporting the activities of ANDRAD and notably the funding of disposal facilities for operational/decommissioning radioactive waste;
  • Establishment of a comprehensive inventory of all types of radioactive wastes, stored or foreseen in Romania;
  • Drafting a national strategy for the safe management of spent fuel and radioactive waste including disposal;
  • Identification of the needs for recruitment and personnel training;
  • Establishment of a communication programme with the public;
  • Proposal of a design and equipment of the characterisation laboratory (stable or mobile) for radioactive waste products ready for storage/disposal (if requested by the national strategy drawn up before).

The budget for this project is: 560 000 euro.
