Project Aims
To strengthen and enhance the effectiveness of the nuclear safety regime in Lithuania and to improve the organization and performance of the Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (VATESI).
This project was implemnted in two phases ( see also LI/RA/01 (2)) covering the following issues:
Phase 1:
- Incident Reporting System;
- Emergency arrangements;
- Information to the public.
Phase 2
- Legal basis and power of decision making;
- Nuclear Safety Authorities: structure, staffing, training and liaison with other bodies;
- Safety criteria, codes technical guidelines;
- Regulatory inspection of pressurized components;
- Radioactive Waste Management.
Project Results
Phase 1:
- Actions on emergency arrangements and information system to the public were undertaken;
- Assistance was provided in the establishment of an effective incident reporting system and an off-site emergency operation centre;
- Equipment was provided for an automatic monitoring system for gamma radiation levels and for an emergency centre.
