Project Aims
Perform an In-depth safety assessment and elaborating related proposals on one reference plant VVER 440/213 (Dukovany), and then to extend the results to other similar plant (Bohunice).Take into account all previous studies or assessment available on the selected sites, including the safety assessment of Greifswald, Unit 5 plus the results of other PHARE & TACIS projects, including parallel PHARE 93 projects like 4.2.5, 4.2.6 a and b and 4.2.7
Project Results
Project resulted in a comprehensive safety assessment of the pilot VVER 440/213 NPP represented by Dukovany NPP as well as comparison with similar Bohunice NPP Units 3 and 4.
The following tasks have been accomplised:
- Development of overall safety requirements for the project;
- Evaluaiton of safety requirements and practices for normal operation, and (iii) Safety requirements and practices for fault conditions;
- Definition of comprehensive evaluation criteria to provide for assessment guidelines for use in the engineering safety evaluation for the Dukovany and Bohunice VVER 440/213 nuclear power plants;
- Assesment of differences between Dukovany and Bohunice NPPs. Particular use was made of the delta report produced by the Bohunice experts which identified the design differences between the two plants together with on-site discussions between ENAC experts and Bohunice experts;
- Summarisation of deficiencies and upgrading recommendations for each of the reviewed area;
- Presentation of results to both Dukovany and Bohunice NPPs management as well as to national Nuclear Regulatory Authorities of the Czech and Slovak Republic;
- Results of the engineering safety evaluation of VVER 440-213 are expected to be used by Beneficiaries in evaluation as well as updating their comprehensive programme of modernisation with concrete proposals, considering design and operating aspects.
