Project Aims
- To identify the experimental support needed for characterization/validation of VVER-440/213 DBA accident analysis codes;
- To assess DBA code(s) predictive capacity through code verification on available experimental results;
- To provide limited additional experimental data by integral loop testing in the PMK-2 test facility.
Project Results
The project consisted of the following tasks:
Experimental area
- Establishment of a specific VVER-440/213 integral test matrix covering all phenomena relevant to postulated DBAs;
- Assessment of already available experimental support from various test facilities and identification of additional necessary testing for VVER specific thermal-hydraulic phenomena;
- Development of a list of experiments, related to point 2 above, which could/should be conducted on the PMK-2 test loop;
- Establishment of test specifications for the PMK-2 test facility for the tests selected to be performed within this project;
- Performance and documentation of the selected tests (testing is included in the scope to a limited extent compatible with the project budget).
Software area
- Code selection: for synergy with project 4.2.6A it will be the same code than in this latter, this is ATHLET or CATHARE;
- On the basis of all available assessment work performed in the framework of the IAEA standard problems exercises (SPE's) and other relevant comparisons to experimental data, identify specific shortcomings of the selected code, and provide an overall assessment of the verification of the code for VVER 440/213 specific DBA analyses;
- Verify the extent of representativity of the PMK-2 test facility versus full scale reactor and the code scaling and transposition capability;
- Code validation on selected PMK-2 test according to the conclusion of task 3.
Work on the project tasks was reported in the reports that were the first seven deliverables. This project was successful in establishing the state of the art for the availability of data for VVER code validation and the verification status of the ATHLET code. It has extended the data base and provided two suitable sets of data for code validation.
