Project Aims

• Identification of relevant scenarios and assessment of VVER-440/213 behaviour in case of beyond design basis accidents and severe accidents;
• Definition and validation of preventive and mitigative accident management strategies coping with beyond design basis accidents;
• Identification of possible mitigation strategies and evaluation of their efficiency in case of severe accident scenarios;
• Transfer of Western technology relative to accident management and severe accident mitigation strategies after adaptation to VVER-440/213 reactors.

Project Results

• The code primarily used within the project was the Modular Accident Analysis Program, VVER-version (MAAP4/VVER);
• Analysis of a wide range of BDBA sequences and dominant damage state representative sequences was successfully performed;
• The project met all objectives in licensing and supplying the MAAP4/VVER analysis code;
• Severe accident analysis to investigate mitigative measures was performed to study important severe accident phenomena and to support the development of Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMG) diagnostics (diagnostic flowchart and severe challenge status tree) for Bohunice plant. This resulted in a sound technical and analytical basis for the further development of SAMG. All the project tasks were fulfilled.
