Objectives

As part of the Tacis 1997 nuclear safety assistance programme for Ukraine, it was decided to procure urgently needed spare parts required for the maintenance and repair of foreign supplied equipment that had been installed at Zaporozhe nuclear power plant in the past. The NPP operator, together with the On-Site Assistance Consultant prepared a list of urgently needed spare parts and these were divided into 9 lots:
U1.03/97A1: Electric motors for valve drives.
U1.03/97A2: Electric drives and worm gears for isolation valves.
U1.03/97A3: Spares for shut-off butterfly valves (drive shaft, shaft neck, binding shells and other parts).
U1.03/97A4: Spares for pressuriser safety valves (bearing shells, studs, bolts and other parts).
U1.03/97A5: Spares for check valves (gaskets, bushes, studs and other parts).
U1.03/97A6: Spares for safety valves (bellows, slide valves, needle bearings and other parts).
U1.03/97A7: Spares for hydraulic shock absorbers (piston seals, support bearings and other parts).
U1.03/97A8: Spares for safety system pumps (rotors, bearings, oil cooler and other parts).
U1.03/97A9: Spare parts for the emergency power supply (gaskets, bushes, studs and other parts).

Based on a market review, it was decided to contract lots A1 to A8 by direct agreement with the original equipment suppliers and to contract lot A9 by open tendering.

Following review of the cost estimates provided by the original equipment manufacturers, the budget available for the project, and the priority list established by the NPP operator, it was decided not to proceed with lot A1 in the framework of Tacis. Lot A9 was reprogrammed in the Tacis 2003 programme with increased scope and budget (see U1.03/03A9). The other 7 lots (A2 – A8) were contracted by direct agreement with the original equipment suppliers.

Project Results

This contract is for Lot A2: Electric drives and worm gears for isolation valves. It was contracted with the company Auma Reister and the equipment was manufactured and delivered between June 2001 and March 2002. The drives and other parts were installed at Units 2 and 3 on the isolation valves DN200, DN400 and DN1200 of the reactor building ventilation systems, designed to cool the reactor control and protection system and the containment.
