The objective of the project was to improve the existing active fire fighting system, to increase passive and active fire protection and to review secondary effects mitigation of the Novovoronezh and Kola NPPs as first application.
As a consequence of the Chernobyl accident, a lot of various contaminated materials were generated, mostly considered as radioactive waste. In order to deal with this problem a pool of 17 stationary and movable waste disposal plants were requested.
Background
In the framework of the TACIS 1991 programme, the Commission agreed with the Russian authorities on technical assistance projects to be financed by the European Community in the field of nuclear safety.
