This contract was placed in order to extend the activities of the Joint Support Office as provided under project U6.01/03 (see contract 125106).

Background
By 2004 the Tacis programme had been operating for 10 years and had already committed more than €1145 Million to improving nuclear safety in the former Soviet countries. Along with Russia, Ukraine was one of the biggest recipients of Tacis assistance.

1) Background

The goal of this TACIS project U2.01/97 is to improve the operational safety of the Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plants, through increasing the quality of Non Destructive Testing performed for In Service Inspection.

Uranium exploration took place in Russia after the WWII and vein types mine were discovered in Stavropol. In the fifties uranium exploration was mainly concentrated on regions outside of Russia.
