Background

Zaporozhye NPP, located in Energodar, Zaporozhye Region, Ukraine comprises 6 power units and, with 6000 MW installed capacity, is the largest nuclear power generation facility in Europe.

Background

The primary overpressure protection system is designed to protect the reactor equipment and pipelines against primary circuit overpressure phenomena during different transients.

1) Background

The present project is a continuation of on-site-assistance (OSA), rendered by RWE Energy as the EC appointed Consultant to Zaporoshe NPP.

This project had 2 main different categories of objectives and tasks:

Objectives

In the framework of the “Tacis Nuclear Safety Programme”, it was decided to increase the nuclear safety of the units 1 through 6 at the Zaporozhye NPP by improving the protection of the primary circuit from overpressure under normal and emergency modes.

1. to improve operational safety culture of the RNPP (Soft OSA) through general On-Site Assistance to RNPP eg.

Project Description

After the "Stuck-open of the pressurizer safety valve" incident that occurred in Zaporozhye in 1995, the maintenance work was incriminated and led to a modification of the geometry of valve seat and disk.

1) Background
The TACIS 96 programme for nuclear safety agreed upon between the European Commission and Ukraine contains provisions for operational safety and near term technical improvements for Ukrainian NPP.

This contract is for the the design, manufacture, delivery, etc.

Objectives

The present TACIS project U1.01/96C aims at providing spare parts for valves for unit 3 pressuriser and pressure accumulators, which were originally supplied by German companies Sempell and Bopp & Reuther.
