Background

The TACIS 91 Project 4.2 “Crisis Management and Safety Panels” constituted the first phase of a global project aimed at providing a complete crisis management system to improve nuclear safety in Russian VVER 1000 nuclear power plants.

Background
The feedwater control valves ensured, together with the variable speed feedwater pumps, the control of the feedwater flow to - and of the level in - the Steam Generators (SG’s).

Objective
The aim of the project is the refurbishment of the present Process Monitoring System (PMS) with full consideration of the possibility to operate with PMS functions in the present as well as in the new system.

Unit 5 is equipped with four SGs. To protect the SGs and corresponding system of live steam piping from pressure excess (for example at abnormal operation or in case of the accident) the following systems are to be replaced:

The original valves, 48 valves in total, for which spare parts are necessary (Gate valves, Globe valves, Check valves) were supplied in 1976 by GEC Alsthom-VELAN.
