Project Aims
- Establishment of validation procedures for coupled codes;
- Extension and qualification of a database for the validation of coupled codes;
- Contribution to the validation of available coupled codes.
Project Results
- Assessment of fuel-cell cross section data and data collection from experimental facilities have been fulfilled. Corresponding Technical Reports were completed;
- The favoured VVER-440 transient to be applied for code validation was the "Drop of one turbine to house load level", measured in Loviisa-1 (Finland);
- From the available VVER-1000 transients, the experiment "Turning off one of the two working feed water pumps", performed in Balakovo-4 (Russia), was selected;
- Input decks were prepared for the different coupled codes to be validated against the measurements;
- Good agreement was found in most cases between the results of neutronics codes calculations and the data measured in the respective reactor cores;
- First coupled-codes calculations were performed with HEXTRAN-SMABRE and DYN3D-ATHLET for both reactors. The preliminary results showed that both codes are able to model the behaviour of the safety-relevant core and thermal-hydraulics plant parameters during a transient;
- Coupled code calculations were performed for codes HEXTRAN-SMABRE (VTT), DYN3D-ATHLET (FZR, NRI, STCNRS, INRNE), BIPA8-ATHLET (KI) and KIKO3D-ATHLET (AEKI). The calculated results were compared with each other and with the measured data;
- Reports produced were reviewed by GRS.
