Project Aims
The project was aimed at using proven methodology to collect information about systems/components/equipment operation, in order to improve maintenance strategy and enhance operational safety and plant reliability. A suitable data bank was considered to be essential also for PSA purpose and for maintenance and operation quality. The final aim of the data bank was the organised collection of data, such as operational events, failures, repairs and maintenance activities on major NPP components/equipment whose technical specifications, together with their operational duties and environmental conditions, are specified in detail.
By putting together the operational experience of all VVER 440-213 NPPs type in the beneficiary countries as well as the data collected during the preparation of the plant specific PSA, it was intended to create a set of data that will be processed in a homogeneous way in order to:

  • Improve the credibility of the estimated reliability parameters by using the necessary feedback from reactor operation;
  • Provide a suitable data input for PSA;
  • Determine time dependence of equipment failure rate behaviour;
  • Identify common mode and common cause failure and human error;
  • Optimize maintenance by providing information for: maintenance quality improvement, replacement and testing strategies and frequency;
  • Analyse the influence of some parameters, such as environmental conditions, mode of operation, maintenance type, load factors and operational duties, on the reliability parameters of the components;
  • The possibility of getting data from Russia/Ukraine should have been examined, too.

Project Results
The project resulted in the completion in the following tasks:

  • Data bank scope definition (content, structure, etc.);
  • Definition of characteristics/requirements of basic software and data transmission ;
  • Development of specific basic software for its own feature requirement;
  • Definition of technical terms of reference for hardware and basic software supply;
  • Personnel training.

Further Project Results
Further information on the project results could be sought from the beneficiary organizations.
