Project Aims
The overall aim of this project is to improve the radiological safety and physical protection of the Maisiagala repository. Within this overall aim, there are five specific objectives:

  • Preparation of Safety analysis report (SAR) for the licensing of the closure of the Maisiagala repository;
  • Specification of equipment and works for the physical protection and environmental monitoring of the site;
  • Identifying the content of the safety upgrading programme for the repository;
  • Supervision of the necessary upgrading works;
  • Providing training and feedback of western European experience to RATA staff in order to enable them, in future, to perform similar work themselves.

Project Results
The project is in progress and project progress reports have been issued as per the Terms of Reference. The main results from the implementation of each project task will be summerized in the project completeion report at the end of the contract.
