Project Aims
The aim of this project was the strengthening and enhancement of the effectiveness of the nuclear safety regime in Bulgaria. In particular, it was aimed at improving the organization and performance of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency.
The assisstence was provided in the following areas:

  • Legal assistance;
  • Organization, administration, management;
  • Training;
  • Emergency preparedness;
  • Hardware.

The activities for the emergency preparedness included:

  • mission of NII staff to Bulgaria to discuss the emergency arrangements and procedures used by Western regulatory bodies;
  • two visits of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency staff to UK to observe emergency exercises both on-site and off-site.

The project was completed according to the specified Terms of Reference.
